MSP Administration

Is anyone looking at stopping the administration of the MSP Group Plan administration? It looks like organizations can submit a Group Plan termination to MSP. The information my payroll department received would have the City no longer responsible for premium submission (gone as of Jan 1) as well as administering the personal information for all of the employees and dependents. Appears to be a win; flipping the administration cost back to MSP after downloading on us this year.

    Valemount is currently completing the paperwork to terminate. As you mentioned, it appears to be a win. When we contacted MSP, they said there would be no benefit to the muni for continuing.

  • Update - as per the UBCM Group Benefits Newsletter dated Dec 2019
    "...enrolment in MSP will still be mandatory for all residents of BC. Also be reminded that as part of your contract with Pacific Blue Cross, all employees and their dependents covered under a group or individual plan must be actively enrolled in MSP.
    To avoid any potential issues, PBC strongly recommends that employers continue with their current record keeping practices to ensure MSP coverage is still active for current and future employees."
