Online banking payments from CIBC customers

Are there any municipalities out there that pay monthly fees as well as per transaction fees to allow tax payments through online banking CIBC customers? Most banks exempt the fees to us (Cumberland) for online banking payments but CIBC will not waive their fees to us.

  • Same in Terrace, all banks waive the fee except for CIBC.

  • This is the same for Revelstoke, all banks waive the fee except CIBC and BMO. We have recently set up these banks and will incur the fees to offer more digital options to taxpayers.

  • Metchosin finally relented this year and we are in the process of signing up with CIBC. We felt that the residents should have the ability to pay online from any local institution. Very annoying though. How much do they charge?

  • I believe it is 5 cents per transaction, similar to debit cards, and a flat fee of $25 per month. It isn't a lot of money, but figured online payments are more efficient for staff to process than tax payers coming in to pay, or writing cheques that often come back and require follow up as they are not filled out correctly.
